Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co. delivers electricity and natural gas to Residential and Non-Residential customers in the city of Mt. Carmel, IL, parts of Wabash County and to residents and businesses in the Villages of Allendale, Patton, St. Francisville, Bellmont, Keensburg, and Cowling.

Our Service Area

Our business office is located in Mt. Carmel at 316 N. Market Street. If you are new to the area and have not had electric or gas service with Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co., you will need to come to our office to establish service.

The Company is regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission. The rules and regulations set forth in the Administrative code are the foundation of our business policies and practices.

Economic Development - Poised For The Future

Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co. has established a distribution system for electricity and natural gas that will support industrial growth in our community and surrounding area. Company representatives work with the City of Mt. Carmel and Area Economic Alliance (AEA) initiatives to promote new business in the area. History

Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co. has been lighting the way since 1893. Our roots run deep in Wabash County and our employees live and work right here in our service territory and have for over 100 years.

February 8, 1893

Articles of Incorporation were issued from the State of Illinois to Mt. Carmel Light and Water Company.

June 1902

The name of the Company was changed to The New Electric Company

June 7, 1902

City of Mt. Carmel passed an ordinance authorizing The New Electric Company to construct, maintain and operate an electric lighting plant in the City of Mt. Carmel.

May 17, 1906

City of Mt. Carmel passed an ordinance authorizing The New Electric Company the right and power to lay down all necessary pipes, conduits and other appliances necessary for the conveying of a system of hot water heating to the inhabitants of the City of Mt. Carmel.

October 5, 1906

State of Illinois issued a Certificate of Name Change from The New Electric Company to The New Electric Light Company

November 14, 1913

State of Illinois issued Articles of Incorporation to Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co. and Service Company.

February 28, 1946

The Shareholders of Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co. and Service Company voted to change the name of the Company to Mt. Carmel Public Utility Co.
